Out of necessity I have been teaching, via a web camera, students who have little or no access to private lesson instruction. My nephew and nieces in North Dakota have wonderful band teachers, but little access to one on one instruction, due to time constraints in schools today. As a band teacher I was constantly searching for someone to help out with private instruction as most of my day was taken up with large group instruction. Children need BOTH private and large group experience for a sound musical foundation on their instrument.

Initially the parent/guardian purchases a web camera that costs approximately $50-$60. The camera needs to be installed to their computer. Next the parent signs up with MSN messenger online, absolutely free. This service then provides the connection for communication via your web camera, to my computer.

After the initial sign up process is done, the student simply signs in weekly by clicking on "Windows Live Messenger" and "sign in." I answer the "phone call" and the lesson begins.
